A Little Bit About Boot Camp…..

A Little Bit about Queens Boot Camp…..and more….

Hi All!!!

So today’s blog post is dedicated to the amazing women of the Queens Boot Camp…..I am going to tell you a little bit about camp, my philosophy on fitness and wellness and the goals we try to accomplish in the four weeks we spend together at Boot Camp!!!

For starters, as you all know, the Queens Boot Camp is an all women’s fitness program geared towards weight loss, increasing muscle tone and overall fitness improvement. I seek to assist each and every camper with becoming FIT HAPPY AND HEALTHY. These goals are achieved through PLANNED workouts that are PREPARED in advance with the knowledge of me- Becky- to help each client achieve their weight loss and fitness goals. Each day of camp is different. Unless I get a bunch of requests for a particular class- I try to make each day of camp a new experience – for your body and mind. I incorporate strength training, cardiovascular workouts, endurance training, interval training, calisthenics, and more! I would have to say the most requested class is kickboxing and strength training. I try and have a version of each of those classes once per week in camp. I am a student of martial arts and have practiced for the past 8 years. I try and bring all of my advanced fighting training into the class and teach kickboxing in a more combat oriented format- rather than the typical group fitness type class. My strength training regime is created with the goal of firming the entire body and strengthening your mind.
Another class that I teach which is quite popular amongst the campers is FORZA- cardiovascular samurai sword fighting. Here are some pics and videos…….

In addition to the fitness component of camp, there is a great deal of time spent on talking food and nutrition. It is my belief that so many people are willing to “sell” you the magic secret of weight loss…..when really there is no secret other than they are stealing your money without you knowing it……
There is NO secret to weight loss……if you want to lose weight- you need to examine your eating HABITS……keep in mind a habit is something you do without thought!!!! So you must track your eating habits- preferably by writing down every particle of food you consume, then researching and figuring out the nutritional information on the food you consumed…..(keep in mind there are computer programs to help you with this daunting task…like Sparkpeople.com). Once this is done- a person can learn a lot about what they need to do to lose weight…….I also assist with a food journal examination and discussion at the end of each week……

Ok- so we have covered the FIT goal, the HEALTHY goal – now to HAPPY. In addition to the happiness generated by becoming more fit and healthy, I try to bring out the inner child of each camper ad help them feel free to be happy and do the unthinkable!!! Each calendar year, I organize several social trips. One of the most requested trips is to Flying Trapeze. We are fortunate enough to live in NYC where there are an abundance of circus schools and trapeze classes available. Here are some video clips from one our most recent trips. Here we visited the Streb Institute in Brooklyn, NY

Ok—There you have it—a little bit about boot camp……

Becky’s Fitness Company goes ROCK CLIMBING!

Good Day!!!

Fitness does not mean – going to the gym and getting on a treadmill- ready to tear your eyes out with boredom…..and walking or running for an hour.  This seems to be the general misconception about getting fit and working out!  If my only choice of exercise was to workout at a gym– I may not be as fit as I am…….

My attention span for exercise is limited- unless – I am preparing for a competition– then it is fueled by my fierce competitive drive….other than that- I have about 10 minutes on the treadmill before I am ready to lose my mind….sooooo I try and show everyone – my way of being fit happy and healthy!!!  One of my favorite activities is rock climbing!!  It is a great workout for your entire body and is a blast!!!  Here are some pics from a two trips clients of Becky’s Fitness Company and I took this past winter!!!

The Trip was to ISLAND ROCK in Plainview New York – The link is below– it is a great experience for kids, families and for anyone who wants to try something new!!!

High Trek Adventure Race June 2008

Greetings!!!

On Saturday June 14, 2008, The Queens Adventure Boot Camp participated in an amazing event! We ran the High Trek Adventure Race and raised over $3300 for the New York Special Olympics!!! What a blast we had! The Adventure Boot Camp team placed #51 out of 75 teams!!! Keep in mind- the delay was in our lack of trivia knowledge and Manhattan geography! But we finished in just over three hours and had a blast!!! Fellow Boot Camper Randi Grossack- saved the day with her wisdom and drive!!! Thank you Randi!!! Without her- I am afraid I would still be at the starting gate!!! LOL We had a blast! Thank you to all that sponsored us and made this day great! It is wonderful to get fit, have fun and give back to the community!!!

Remember Adventure Racing is a great alternative to conventional fitness races like marathons and triathalons….

Check out the New York Adventure Racing Associations website for local adventure races in your neck of the woods at:

Healthy OVer Easy Eggs!!

Healthy Over Easy Eggs

So I will now share with you one of my favorite healthy morning recipes!!! I usually eat these eggs with some sliced fruit on the side, like berries or peaches, and two Applegate Farms Chicken Sausages.

Healthy Over Easy Eggs
4 Fresh Eggs
Cooking Spray

Heat a large skillet over a low to medium flame; eggs burn quickly so be careful with heat. Spray pan with cooking spray; crack an egg and allow only the white to fall out of the egg directly on the heated pan. Lift the handle about an inch so that the eggs pool in the far corner of the pan. Hold for 30 seconds or until the whites start to set, then lower the handle and give the pan a jiggle just to make sure there’s no sticking. Repeat with two more eggs. Take the last egg, crack over the pan and allow the whole egg to drop in the pan, including the yolk- be careful not to break the yolk. Season the eggs with a pinch of salt and pepper and continue to cook over low heat until the whites become opaque. Jiggle to loosen the eggs, then flip the eggs over by pushing the pan away and snapping upward simultaneously. with either a spatula or by tossing them over in the pan. Once the eggs start their somersault, raise the pan to meet them so that the exposed yolks experience the softest landing possible. The goal of course is to avoid breaking the yolk. If you succeed, count to 10 slowly then slide them onto a plate and serve. If the yolks do break, act like you meant them to, fry for another minute and serve. They’ll still taste great. I like to cut my eggs up- and share the one yolk over the three extra whites!!! Serve with Chicken Sausage and fruit and PRESTO! Healthy, clean great way to start the day. Whole project start to finish should take less than 10 minutes to prepare- less than your daily bowl of oatmeal!!!

On June 21, I took a kayaking trip with fellow boot campers and friends! Here is a Pic!!! Remember- fitness does not mean GYM!!!! Enjoy life- don’t be afraid to live outside the box!!! Give something new a try! You will love it!!!!!

This trip was taken with Sea Kayaking Skills and Adventures in Long Island
