New Year’s Resolution 2011: Get Fit with Fido! Lose weight fast walking the Dog!

Have you resolved to lose weight and get fit in 2011? Dreading the big life change that you will have to endure come January 1? Why not make the resolution to get fit with Fido and lose weight fast by walking the dog? No gym, no fitness equipment needed! Just get outside and WALK! Need a workout partner? Look no more, your companion may be sleeping right at your feet! Studies show that overweight people tend to have overweight, out of shape dogs. Why not commit to get yourself healthy and do something for your best friend – get the dog fit too!
Of course you will have to work on your endurance as well as your dogs, so start out slow! Try extending your daily walks for an extra black or two each week. Before you know it, you and Fido will be looking forward to your next outing and dropping unwanted extra pounds too.
I have two dogs, and each day I take them for their basic relief walks, three times daily. We all get a few minutes, typically 10-15 to get outside, and get some fresh air. However, these walks are not enough exercise for the average dog, and without additional workouts planned, they could end up packing on extra pounds and suffering the same health problems we humans encounter when carrying extra weight.
Create accountability. All dog owners KNOW dogs understand what we are saying when we talk to them. Stop, call their name, get their attention, look them in the eye, and commit out loud to get them and yourself that you will get them healthy by taking planned LONG walks 3-4 times weekly. This DOES not mean go sit at a dog park and let the dog wrestle with his friends. This means planned alone walking workout time – just you and the dog! Dog parks are a whole other type of outlet for both you and Fido.
So what are you waiting for? Plan those workouts, get outside and get fit with Fido and lose weight fast walking the dog! The length of your walk will depend on your fitness level as well as your dogs’ physical fitness & ability. You may want to talk to your veterinarian before commencing your exercise regimen. No dog to walk? Why not volunteer at your local animal shelter – there are PLENTY of volunteers waiting to exercise with you!

Adventure Racing

Have you ever heard of Adventure Racing?
Have you ever thought of running a race for motivation to get fit? Then after contemplating the idea you realize you are not interested in participating in the typical marathon, half marathon or triathlon? I don’t blame you! Training can be isolating and redundant! The races can also be competitive and overwhelming and ultimately BORING!
I am a leisure athlete. I train to stay healthy, have fun and be fit. I love to participate in competitive sports, but I do not focus on running, swimming and biking alone. I am a cross trainer, and want to participate in a race that reflects my free spirited, fun, cross training abilities. If this describes you – or someone you aspire to be, then read on…..
If you want to get fit, need motivation and really want to have one of the absolute best times in your life while training and competing then give Adventure Racing a try! These races typically involve mountain biking, orienteering (trail running and map reading), and kayaking! Some even involve rappelling and mud pile conquering! This is right up my alley! Running around in the woods, playing with compasses, kayaking, mountain biking, rappelling and jumping in and out of mud (depending on the race you choose)! This is the type of race you can get your friends and family to sign on for, you can train in groups and have a total blast participating in the event!
First you need to select your event. Then start generating excitement about your event. You can make it an office competition, a family event, a race amongst or with friends as a team, you can raise money for charity whatever you want. This is going to be your day, your race, your event. Make sure that whatever type of activity is involved in the race, you are able to train for it. Next start to plan your training. The publicity you have created about your race will create motivation to stick to your training plan and follow through with the race. Finally, be sure to start focusing on the fuel / food you consume to ensure your body is properly nourished for your training and to help you attain your goals on race day. Proper rest is also essential.
Now get to it! Start a training journal including an overview of the exercises you perform, the foods you consume and your feelings during your journey. When race day arrives you will have ventured on a personal adventure to a better self and you will have the most fun ever competing in your Adventure Race! Leaving you with a memory and health benefits that will last a lifetime!
Here is a list of some of my favorite adventure races! I am participating in the Muddy Buddy this year and hopefully a traditional 8 hour Adventure Race as well! May this article inspire you have find your inner child, go out exercise, eat right and make a change in your life and others! Have fun and train hard!

Fitness as a relationship booster? Exercises that make you better in bed & ways to become a closer couple!

Need some motivation to get to the gym, start a new fitness plan and inspiration to STICK with it? I have it right here for you! Exercise, eating healthy and being fit can help BOOST your relationship with your partner / spouse and help you look, feel and perform better in bed! Here’s how!

First, hit the gym together. A couple that plays together, stays together! Even if you don’t workout together, the act of going to the gym as a couple builds a strong foundation of support to stick to your health and wellness goals. My husband and I often go to the gym together – I will take a class, he will hit the weight room. The buddy system of going to the gym together ensures that we stick to our fitness goals, and then gives us added support to eat healthy when we are away from the gym! What’s more is, the increased blood flow, weight loss and stamina……help increase your sex drive!

Next, try something NEW together! Eat Smart! Eating good clean fresh foods will help you feel better, look better and benefit your overall health! Take a healthy cooking class together, stroll a farmers market, go home and cook a romantic meal together! Engaging in healthy habits together leads to a long term support system for your life changes and a bond between couples that runs strong!

Learning to support each other in being healthy and happy makes for a closer couple, better sex and overall higher relationship satisfaction!

Here are some exercises you can do to help make you better in bed!

1. Yoga: Yoga increases flexibility, helps you focus on breathing and concentrate on movement.
2. Cardiovascular Training: Any form of cardiovascular training will help you lose weight, feel more confident and build stamina!
3. Bench Presses: This is for the men out there! Want to be able to support your body weight and stamina for an extended love session? The missionary position requires this- so get pushing!
4. Kegel Exercises: This is for the ladies! These exercises are easy and can be done anytime! They help women reach orgasm easier and help men last longer! So start contracting those pubococcygeal muscles and have fun!

MY STORY: Part 1

Happy New Year! As you all can imagine I have a lot of really cool things planned for 2010. Here is one of them.

THE STORY OF ME

So I have made a decision – to open myself up to you all, my readers and tell you all about my personal journey in hopes that it will inspire you to forge ahead with your dreams and goals (whether they are for health, wellness, fitness, a great body, work whatever). Each week, I will post a little story from the journey of my life and my quest for fitness, health, well being and happiness. I think the most important message I will be trying to convey through the blog is you are NOT alone. I feel and experience a lot of the same things you do when it comes to food, exercise and life. I want to de bunk the illusion that being fit, exercising and eating right comes naturally and easy to me. I want to let you in to see that no matter which path you choose in life, you will face obstacles, and challenges. It is how you overcome them that defines who you are.

I want to share my journey with you, and so here is my story:

Summer 2005: I am an attorney, with my own law firm, successful, busy, in a great marriage, comfortable home life, but missing something. I am not over weight….I am just uncomfortable, unfit and feeling not pretty or good about myself at all. No matter what clothes I put on, I am just not happy. At this time, the extreme make over shows were popular, and I was finding myself wishing I could just do an extreme make over (BTW- this is NOT a healthy thought, and I knew it but still secretly wished for it).

So I am sitting in bed one night in August of 2005, watching my MTV jibberish and on comes the show TRUE LIFE. The episode is about a Harvard Grad student, who has a body like mine and they follow her on a 12 week journey to her first fitness competition. I watched the entire episode! An intelligent, super busy woman, who makes time for exercise, learns how to eat right and in 12 weeks has a body I would die for! NO PLASTIC surgery, no extreme workouts…..That was it! I was determined and my mind was made up. And so began my quest for the ultimate body!

Here is one of my before pictures…….from September 1 2005. And a pic of me on stage 8 months later at my first fitness competition. It took me a little longer than the 12 weeks on the show….but that is because I made the life changes at my own pace.

This is the story of how I achieve my goal of entering my first figure competition, getting the body of my dreams and ultimately finding the guts to change my life in ways that made ME happy.

Until next week,

Make 2010 the year of YOU! New Year New YOU!

MAKE 2010 the YEAR OF YOU! NEW YEAR NEW YOU!

Here it is……2010 – January 1. Quickly approaching. You will have a NEW clean slate. Make this day the first day of the rest of your life! Live life to enjoy it, being happy and healthy. This is NOT easy, but being unhealthy is not easy either – it is up to you which path you choose……

Keep in mind, studies show that more than 90% of New Year’s Resolutions end in failure! This is due to unattainable and unrealistic goals! Set your ultimate goal and then begin by setting out smaller weekly goals to achieve throughout the year to help you reach that overall New Year’s Resolution. You have a whole year to make the big change! Don’t rush it! Enjoy the journey! Achieve your goal by making small changes each week! If your ultimate goal is to lose 50 pounds…well that is great! But do so by starting to walk 2-3 times per week for the month of January and by making one small dietary change you can stick with. Before you know it the pounds will start coming off, you will get used to the changes you made in January, and you will be ready to increase your physical and mental challenge by February! Life is a marathon – NOT a sprint……start thinking that way…….

No matter what you resolve to change in 2010 – let this next week be a time for reflection WITHOUT negative self talk. Think about all the great things you accomplished this year, and then carefully plan out what you intend on changing in the upcoming year. Let your resolutions be filled with hope and love for yourself. Then set out your goals in a manner that you can realistically meet those goals. Be patient, be consistent and be committed.

If your New Year’s Resolution has to do with losing weight and getting into great shape (and whose isn’t?) then let me help you achieve those goals! Guarantee your success by working with a fitness expert who can guide you, encourage you and get you through your challenges!

I’d love to team up with you – together we will transform your body in 2010!

Check out my NEW ULTIMATE FITNESS PACKAGE complete with 15 MP3 AUDIO workouts, 2 months of Virtual Boot Camp, 9 Four week fitness programs and MORE! All for $99! MAKE 2010 the YEAR of YOU! Together we can push to make all of your fitness goals a reality!

Paddleboarding, Sailing around NYC and Fritattas!

Happy Monday!!

So this past weekend- I went out – and really explored some fun activities around the NY area – many of which are available worldwide! I wanted to tell you all about my experiences and hope you find the time and energy to go and enjoy the splendors of life!!! These activities are great for all ages- and can be enjoyed as a trip with friends or the whole family!

Ok- so first – on Saturday – I took a paddleboarding lesson! It was AWESOME! We paddled for about 2.5 hours in a pond/lake in the Hamptons LI – what an amazing expereince! You get to stand on a large surfboard and paddle around….when we got tired, we layed on the boards and took in the rays…..we also paddled on our knees for a while…..really so much more fun then Kayaking – as you are much closer to the water. We took the lessons and then rented the boards for an additional 2 hours from Surf Hampton 631 283 8243.

SAILING NYC:

Then on Sunday night- I went sailing around NYC for 2 hours on a classic sailboat – about 20-30 people on board. Champane was included as we watched the sun set behond the Statue of Liberty. The sail was $50 and left from Chelsea Piers. Another awesome way to experience NYC…..meet new friends, relax and take a staycation…..

FINALLY -

Kandi’s Frittata!!!
A few weeks ago I was visiting my good friend and she invited me for breakfast……she happens to be my idol with respect to being an awesome MOM and housewife (as well as many other things….). This is a version of what she made! It was awesome!!! I HAD to share it with you!!!

In glass corningware dish- I use a medium rectangle dish – coat pan with olive oil cooking spray. Then cover the bottom of the pan with a think layer of shredded potatoes or sweet potatoes (for speed I use Simply Potatoes), then add a layer of any ingredients you wish……(last week I did sauteed basil, onions, tomatoes, sun dried tomatoes, parmesean cheese, and brocoli) [today I will add sauteed portobella mushrooms, onions, spinach and asparagus with parmesean cheese] then top with 18-24 egg whites and shredded cheese. Then bake on 350 for about 30 minutes until set and slightly browning on top. Enjoy!!!

As Always,
Stay Focused Until the Miracle Happens!
