MY STORY: Part 1

Happy New Year! As you all can imagine I have a lot of really cool things planned for 2010. Here is one of them.

THE STORY OF ME

So I have made a decision – to open myself up to you all, my readers and tell you all about my personal journey in hopes that it will inspire you to forge ahead with your dreams and goals (whether they are for health, wellness, fitness, a great body, work whatever). Each week, I will post a little story from the journey of my life and my quest for fitness, health, well being and happiness. I think the most important message I will be trying to convey through the blog is you are NOT alone. I feel and experience a lot of the same things you do when it comes to food, exercise and life. I want to de bunk the illusion that being fit, exercising and eating right comes naturally and easy to me. I want to let you in to see that no matter which path you choose in life, you will face obstacles, and challenges. It is how you overcome them that defines who you are.

I want to share my journey with you, and so here is my story:

Summer 2005: I am an attorney, with my own law firm, successful, busy, in a great marriage, comfortable home life, but missing something. I am not over weight….I am just uncomfortable, unfit and feeling not pretty or good about myself at all. No matter what clothes I put on, I am just not happy. At this time, the extreme make over shows were popular, and I was finding myself wishing I could just do an extreme make over (BTW- this is NOT a healthy thought, and I knew it but still secretly wished for it).

So I am sitting in bed one night in August of 2005, watching my MTV jibberish and on comes the show TRUE LIFE. The episode is about a Harvard Grad student, who has a body like mine and they follow her on a 12 week journey to her first fitness competition. I watched the entire episode! An intelligent, super busy woman, who makes time for exercise, learns how to eat right and in 12 weeks has a body I would die for! NO PLASTIC surgery, no extreme workouts…..That was it! I was determined and my mind was made up. And so began my quest for the ultimate body!

Here is one of my before pictures…….from September 1 2005. And a pic of me on stage 8 months later at my first fitness competition. It took me a little longer than the 12 weeks on the show….but that is because I made the life changes at my own pace.

This is the story of how I achieve my goal of entering my first figure competition, getting the body of my dreams and ultimately finding the guts to change my life in ways that made ME happy.

Until next week,

Make 2010 the year of YOU! New Year New YOU!

MAKE 2010 the YEAR OF YOU! NEW YEAR NEW YOU!

Here it is……2010 – January 1. Quickly approaching. You will have a NEW clean slate. Make this day the first day of the rest of your life! Live life to enjoy it, being happy and healthy. This is NOT easy, but being unhealthy is not easy either – it is up to you which path you choose……

Keep in mind, studies show that more than 90% of New Year’s Resolutions end in failure! This is due to unattainable and unrealistic goals! Set your ultimate goal and then begin by setting out smaller weekly goals to achieve throughout the year to help you reach that overall New Year’s Resolution. You have a whole year to make the big change! Don’t rush it! Enjoy the journey! Achieve your goal by making small changes each week! If your ultimate goal is to lose 50 pounds…well that is great! But do so by starting to walk 2-3 times per week for the month of January and by making one small dietary change you can stick with. Before you know it the pounds will start coming off, you will get used to the changes you made in January, and you will be ready to increase your physical and mental challenge by February! Life is a marathon – NOT a sprint……start thinking that way…….

No matter what you resolve to change in 2010 – let this next week be a time for reflection WITHOUT negative self talk. Think about all the great things you accomplished this year, and then carefully plan out what you intend on changing in the upcoming year. Let your resolutions be filled with hope and love for yourself. Then set out your goals in a manner that you can realistically meet those goals. Be patient, be consistent and be committed.

If your New Year’s Resolution has to do with losing weight and getting into great shape (and whose isn’t?) then let me help you achieve those goals! Guarantee your success by working with a fitness expert who can guide you, encourage you and get you through your challenges!

I’d love to team up with you – together we will transform your body in 2010!

Check out my NEW ULTIMATE FITNESS PACKAGE complete with 15 MP3 AUDIO workouts, 2 months of Virtual Boot Camp, 9 Four week fitness programs and MORE! All for $99! MAKE 2010 the YEAR of YOU! Together we can push to make all of your fitness goals a reality!

My first run…uh stumble with Duke

duke-for-blogI was considering digging out my pepper spray to take with me on jogs.  (While off the wagon I’ve started enjoying this.)  My boyfriend said “why don’t you just take duke?”

Meet Duke, my 65 pound pit bull/bulldog mix:

I was thinking this would be a nice,  safe way to run.  WHAT WAS I THINKING???  About half mile from home, Duke seemed distracted.  I looked back to find this little fuzzy black and white dog who couldn’t weigh more than 5 pounds following us and sniffing Duke’s butt.  I ran another hundred yards or so and looked back to see that the dog was still there as well as a yorkie and their apparent mom in her PJs.  This gave me quite a chuckle as I turned around to return the pack to their owner and continue on my run.   Once back on track, I barely make it out of eyesight before twisting my ankle!  (I’m fine).  With my new Duke-enhanced balance skills, next thing I know I’m laying on the road with red marks on both hands and my right arm and hip!  And of course my first response was to look around to make sure no one saw me!

Not knowing if my ankle would feel better or worse, I started back toward home.  When I got there, I felt pretty good and kept going past my house with Duke.  It’s a bit secluded in that direction, but was beautiful with the leaves starting to turn.  Until Duke pulled me off the road and into the woods (and almost a ditch) chasing a squirrel!  After regaining my balance SUCCESSFULLY that time, I kept going with a chuckle and the satisfaction that I could ice my ankle later and that I got in almost 2 miles.  I was richly rewarded when I saw a house at the end of my road proudly flying a flag with a picture of a Pirate on it stating “Surrender your Booty”.  Despite the road rash, one of my favorite runs so far!  I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Now, I don’t suppose it’s good to rehydrate with a margarita…

Changes….

Congrats Becky the new blog looks great, and as always you are just a wealth of information.

I have been following a clean eating lifestyle since last April (08) when I did my first bootcamp and was introduced to the Clean Eating book, and Magazine at the Nutrition Seminar.  I do give myself one cheat day a week, Saturday, and eat whatever I want….And most important, if I fall off the wagon, and just pick myself up, and start a clean slate..I don’t beat myself up.

I did two bootcamps last year and lost 10lbs. lowered my Blood Pressure to normal, lost lots of inches.  i loved bootcamp so much that I am doing it now.  I just completed the first week, and OH BOY- Tough but Great!

WAHOOOO!

The blog is awesome Becky!  Thanks so much for being an inspiration to us all and sharing all of your tips – - they make such a big difference!  – Adrienne

If you told me a year ago……

that I would be running my first sprint triathlon and finishing with a respectable time and actually enjoying it – I would have called you crazy!!  But its true – just happened this weekend – pictures and “official” times to prove it.  AND.. I could not have done this without Becky and boot camp.  Add to all of that, losing almost 40 lbs, rock climbing, surfing and having the guts to do all the adventurous stuff on an Alaskan vacation – boot camp and clean eating gave me a complete 180 on my life.  Mind you, this all started past the ripe old age of 40.   Its never too late!!   If I didn’t live it, I would not have believed it, but what an awesome feeling when you set a goal(s) and you reach it.  On top of exercise, clean eating, and laughing out loud, one of the greatest lessons learned from Becky is that you truly can do anything you set your mind to.  It may not happen as fast or as easy as we’d like it to, but it will happen.  When it does…look out… its one of the greatest feelings to reach that goal, and know you did it.  Do it for yourselves – that makes it all the more sweet.  I kept Becky’s  famous saying in my head through the last leg of my trithlon run – “..  come on – you can do anything for one minute…” and sure enough – there was the finish line and I lived to cross it with my head held high and a sweet fist pump for victory. Becky – you helped me to change my life – a victory for both of us!

MOUNTAIN CLIMBERS – EXERCISE DEMO

Mountain Climbers!! You gotta love them! This exercise is a great cardio exercise- because as you do it– your heart starts to pump! AND it works your upper body and core- from maintaining the plank position throughout the exercise….then it also hits those legs– from moving so quickly! Try this for 1 minute– and you will know what it feels like to have heavy weights attached to those legs!!! I always feel like I am in thick mud pulling my legs up and up- after performing this exercise for a long period of time!!!! Enjoy! I call for this exercise often in my workouts!! Practice and make sure your butt stays down!!! Remember to breathe!

Enjoy your workout!
